Adult Education: COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR ASYLUM SEEKERS IN OAK PARK

Last summer, “new neighbors” started arriving at Police District 15 in Austin. The surrounding communities quickly organized to support hundreds of people, mostly from Venezuela, with food, shelters, clothing and more. That emergency effort has evolved into a large-scale initiative to find apartments, help people apply for asylum and find jobs, and get kids into schools.

Speakers Margie McKenzie with Celine Woznica, Centro San Edmundo; and Nina Doughty, Oak Park Community Resettlement Task Force will share their knowledge and perspectives about this impressive community organizing effort.
