The United Church of Christ
General Synod 32

Save the Date! June 21-25, 2019
in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

General Synod is the bi-annual gathering of the United Church of Christ drawing delegates and visitors from across the nation, and abroad. We gather to remember who we are as a denomination, to explore and reignite our call to ministry on behalf of Jesus Christ, to learn, to worship, to reach out to our brothers and sisters most in need of our advocacy and compassionate presence and to attend to the business and leadership needed for the denomination.

Delegates and visitors to the United Church of Christ General Synod will have dozens of opportunities to learn more about issues and ministries critical to the UCC as a community of faith.

At 12 noon Saturday, June 22, Ruby Sales, a writer, lecturer, public theologian and social critic, will deliver the Valerie Russell Lecture at the Wisconsin Center. A nationally known human-rights advocate and veteran of the 1960s Civil Rights Movement, Sales lecture honors the leadership and legacy of the late Valerie Russell, who devoted her career to working with marginalized and oppressed people through Boston's City Mission Society and national ministries of the United Church of Christ. Participants can purchase tickets to the luncheon when they register for General Synod. Learn more about the lecture and other optional dining events here.

Later that afternoon, Synod planners are offering 30 one-hour workshops, addressing topics around worship, spiritual activism, environmental justice, disability theology, global racial equity and immigrant welcoming congregations, just to name a few.

The workshops were selected from more than 130 applications by a team at the National Setting which was representative of all ministries. They will be presented on Saturday at two different times — 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.

A complete list of workshops can be found here on the General Synod 2019 website.

On Sunday, June 23 there will be an open worship for all in the afternoon followed by a street festival. Watch for more information and plan on coming! Experience the depth and breadth of the United Church of Christ.
