Thanks to the Romans, Britain saw an initial wave of Christian converts early on. But over time, many native ideas and priorities worked their way back into Celtic Christianity. Perhaps most famous was local enthusiasm for mysticism. But there was also a heavy load of literalness and harsh prejudice that led to centuries of unbearable in-fighting among Western Christian ranks.
