Cluster Tutoring is a nonprofit, community-based organization that provides tutoring to more than 100 students in grades K through 12 who primarily come from the Austin neighborhood on Chicago’s West Side. The program was founded in 1990 by a “cluster” of local churches and community groups in response to the disturbing statistic that less than half of Chicago Public School students graduate from high school. Each tutor is matched with a student, and the tutor-student pair works together during the school year to prepare the student for a successful academic career.
Cluster Tutoring Director Kara Kalnitz says they have plenty of paper left over from years past, but would gladly welcome other school supplies. Watch for a box to be placed in the back of the sanctuary starting August 15. We’ll be collecting through September 12 so Cluster Tutoring can distribute them when their program starts in late September. Click below for more information on Cluster Tutoring.
