Celebrate being an Open & Affirming Congregation
Mark your calendars for April 27-28,
a big weekend celebrating Pilgrim’s status as an Open and Affirming (O & A) congregation. This is the designation for congregations in the UCC which make a public covenant of welcome to persons of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions into the full life and ministry of the church. Pilgrim became O & A in the fall of 1998, and we’re celebrating its TWENTIETH year of making that public proclamation. Time to celebrate!
This will be a homecoming, an anniversary and a promise for the future—plan to attend. The festivities will begin Saturday night, April 27 at 6:15 as we host the movie "Boy Erased". Discussion will follow and light snacks will be served. Film starts at 6:30.
We will continue to celebrate with a special Adult Education on Sunday morning April 28 at 9:45. This will be open to children for whom it would be appropriate. In this special time, we will look at historical documents, talk about our shared history, and celebrate our exciting future.
Finally, we will come together in worship at 11:00, reaffirming the covenant we made more than 20 years ago. We will cap that off with a reception in the parlor. Of course, there will be cake!
